Growing in Confidence: A Week of Challenge and Achievement

Week commencing 15th June 2026.

Our theme of self-belief was evident throughout the week as pupils embraced new experiences, challenged themselves and discovered just how much they could achieve.

It was inspiring to see children step beyond their comfort zones and grow in confidence through a variety of opportunities across the school.

Our Year 6 pupils spent the week at Battisborough House, where time away from home and the experience of supporting one another helped them develop greater confidence and independence. We were delighted to welcome them back with plenty of stories to tell and memories to share.

Year 5 had the opportunity to take part in the Davies Centre Challenge at Shiplake College. Activities such as paddleboarding, climbing, kayaking and archery encouraged pupils to push themselves and try something new. Later in the week, many children also took to the stage during the Talent Show. Performing in front of an audience required real courage, and it was wonderful to see how much the support of parents added to the occasion.

Year 4 enjoyed an engaging Greek Day that brought their learning to life. Through practical activities, pupils immersed themselves in the culture and history of Ancient Greece while developing confidence in their understanding and ideas.

There was also cause for celebration in Early Years, where we were delighted to receive Bronze Winner status in the 2026 Pearson National Teaching Awards for Early Years Team of the Year. This national recognition reflected the exceptional dedication and commitment our Early Years team brought to every child, every day. Selected from a highly competitive field of entries from across the UK, the award recognised the positive impact the team had on our pupils, families and wider school community. We were immensely proud to see their hard work acknowledged at a national level and extend our congratulations to every member of the team on this well-deserved achievement.

In Nursery and Pre-School, children demonstrated the week's theme during Sports Morning. The event was full of enthusiasm, with mums and dads joining in the races and helping to create a memorable occasion with their energy and good humour. The week concluded with Father's Day celebrations in Early Years, where children welcomed their dads for breakfast or afternoon tea. These moments provided a lovely opportunity to recognise the encouragement and support that families give throughout the year.

Looking back on the week, we were proud to see self-belief shining through in so many different ways as pupils embraced challenges and made the most of every opportunity.
