Why St Piran’s?

I have had the most wonderful experience with my youngest son and the teachers are exceptional!

Parent Quote

We believe the blend of inspirational teaching; abundance of extra-curricular activities; breadth of facilities all on one site and our nurturing approach makes St Piran’s the best preparatory offering in the area.

We are co-educational as we believe that any child can contribute positively to our school, regardless of gender, and this inclusive environment at a young age is integral to a child’s social and behavioural development.

The school offers a preparatory education from the age of 2 years to 11 years. As the name suggests it is the foundation of education and prepares children for the next stage of their education. These building blocks are the cornerstone of education and it is essential that the foundation is firm and the environment has created a love of learning.

The school strongly believes that the best teachers of a subject are those that choose to study that subject at degree. This especially applies to subjects like music, languages, sport, IT and art. Even for our youngest pupils their skills and techniques develop at a faster rate for being taught by specialist teachers.

Our parents work hard so they can prioritise their child’s education. This means that parents have different requirements to help support them. Therefore, the school operates a Breakfast Club from 7.30am and offers various after-school activities to ensure that parents can pick up at 6pm.

Open Events

Open Days are a great opportunity for families to have a taste of St Piran’s life, hear from key members of staff and talk to pupils about what the school is like. We have one event every term throughout the academic year.

Our Next Open Event

The Open Mornings start at 9.15am with refreshments and a chance to talk to some staff members about particular aspects of the school. The Headmaster's welcome is at 9.30am which will be followed by a tour of the school conducted by the pupils. This will be your opportunity to ask them questions on what it has been like to be a pupil here. Once your tour has finished you can return to Tippet Hall with another opportunity to talk to staff about particular aspects of the school.

The Admission Process

Fact Finding

Visit the school, meet the Head and ask questions of the Registrar.

This will mean that your child will be placed on the admission list in date order. We will then proceed to gather existing school reports, assessing according to their year group and assess if we are the right environment for your child.

Complete the registration form and pay a non-refundable fee of £120.

Taster Days and Assessment

These depend on the age of the child.

For our younger children we will invite them in with their parents for a meeting and to see how they interact with some of the other children.

Children wanting to enter Year 1 and 2 will again be invited in for a meeting with the Head of Year.

Prospective pupils entering Years 3 – 6 are offered a Taster Day at the school. These days are ideal opportunities for informal assessments to be carried out.

If we have a place and we believe we can offer the right environment, an offer will be made.

To accept a place a deposit of £1000 becomes payable (£500 is refundable against the first term’s fees). Once the deposit is received your place is confirmed.

Parents complete all the permission forms and all details are put on our school systems.
