St Piran’s has just invested in a new approach to Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE), called, ’Jigsaw.’ Jigsaw teaches our pupils emotional literacy and spiritual development, helping them to understand and value who they are and how they relate to others.

Developing Mindfulness and Optimising Learning

Helping the children regulate emotion and build emotional resilience enhances focus and concentration; both helping to optimise learning. Mindful children can more readily choose their responses to situations rather than act while caught in the flow of emotion. Jigsaw PSHCE develops mindfulness through a ‘Calm Me’ time in each lesson and allows the children an opportunity to observe their thoughts and feelings, purposefully, in the present moment with no judgement.

A Subject for All Children

PSHCE is for all children, combining emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development in a comprehensive scheme of learning – which can be picked up by any teacher at any time to deliver a lesson, adapting materials to the needs and ages of the children in each year group.
