Street Dance-A-Thon!
On Friday 24th February 2012, pupils, teachers and parents of St. Piran’s raised money through a sponsored street dance-a-thon for the Kazi Mingi Foundation which supports education in Africa.
Everyone at St. Piran's had the opportunity to participate in a street dance workshop demonstrating skill, talent and street dance ability to themed African music. Urban Dance Company supported St. Piran’s in the delivery of the day, providing dance professionals in street, hip hop and break dance.
UDC’s street dance workshops and classes aim to increase children’s strength, stamina and confidence. They also develop memory, coordination and team work by learning street dance moves through kinaesthetic activities whilst keeping fit, socialising and having fun! Urban Dance Company provide street, hip hop and break dance classes, theatre shows, fun days, workshops and birthday parties to Berkshire, Surrey and Hampshire areas.
All dance participants were engaged in a warm up, core body strength exercises, street dance sequences, a cool down and a freestyle circle in the dance workshops. Even the parents and teachers who were involved took part in a StreetFit dance class in the morning. StreetFit is a fitness class fused together with salsa and street dance taught by UDC. Everyone really did shimmy and shake their hips into action! There's still time to make a donation by visiting our Justgiving page! £1074 raised to date!
Scholarship success
Congratulations to our pupils who have gained scholarships to Senior Schools. We heard this week that we have two pupils heading to Reading Blue Coat; a sports scholarship to Pipers Corner and a music scholarship to Leighton Park.
Buy a book!
Book tokens have been sent home with all pupils to celebrate World Book Day. Look out for yours and enjoy browsing for a book!
South Arica exchange returns
Our exchange pupils have today returned from their two week visit to schools in South Africa, to many happy parents in the school car park! By all accounts they have had a superb time and will have a day of rest at home before returning to school tomorrow with many tales to tell of their trip.
Runners excel themselves!
On a beautiful, crisp afternoon, our runners met at Eagle House School for a competitive cross country competition on 3rd February. Around 80 runners from 14 other schools took part on a demanding course which included 'Killer Hill'!
The Under 10 girls stood out, finishing 1st, closely followed by the U11 girls who were 2nd. Our Year 4 boys came 2nd in their races and Year 3 boys third place.
We had some outstanding individual performances with Robyn Watkins finishing first in the U11 girls race. Well done to all who ran and were a credit to our school!
Matches cancelled
Due to the adverse weather conditions, all matches due to take place on Wednesday 8th February have been cancelled - rugby and netball. Cross Country at Lambrook, which was due to take place on Thursday has also been cancelled.
South Africa here we come!
Good luck to our exchange pupils who are off to spend time at schools in South Africa! Last year's exchange to Cordwalles School in Pietermaritzburg was a great success so we're sure this year will be no exception!
